After a recent trip to a jewelry store in town, and some inspiration found from Emily over at Cupcakes and Cashmere, I added jewelry making to one of my favorite hobbies. I applied her delicate necklace how-to and found some beautiful jade and amethyst stones for the project. The directions are so simple and perfect for a lazy sunday afternoon. Stock up on some stones, wire, chain, flat head pliers, wire cutters, and needle-nose pliers (you can also buy a set here), and find out more about the directions here.
Step 1: Figure out how long you want the necklace. Cut the chain to your desired length.
Step 2: Cut a piece of wire (approximately 3″) – make sure it’s longer than you need so that you have extra room to work with.
Step 3: Wrap the wire around the tip of your needle-nose pliers (leave some room on the ends, as these will end up tying back around the base).
Step 4: Open the loop just slightly and push the short pointed end through the last link of the chain.
Step 5: To secure the loop, twist the remaining little piece around the base two times. Cut off any extra wire.
Step 6: Add your stones to the wire
Step 7: Repeat steps 4 & 5 with the open end of the wire.
Step 8: Wear it alone or layer it with other pieces of jewelry.
I liked the necklace style so much I had to make another one, but this time in gold (and with the amethyst ). You can add as many stones as you would like and in any style or shape. Have fun with it and enjoy. You are welcome to post comments and pictures of your necklace below. xoxo, Sunset & Vine.
